This is the kids table set up. I set up plates, paper placemats, Mario cups, napkins, and a Mario, Luigi, or Princess peach hat at each place. There were 35 kids that attended! In the game Super Mario 3D World, you can choose to play as Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, or Toad. I asked the kids ahead of time which character they wanted to be. The girls all chose Peach, and nobody chose Toad! I also placed a mustache at the place of each Mario or Luigi. The kids had fun wearing their hats and mustaches! I also tied star balloons on some of the chairs. In the game, if you get a star it means you passed the level, depending on which Mario game you are playing.
The cake is a two tier chocolate cake with raspberry filling covered with kit kats and m&m’s. My son requested this cake, based on the cake I made for his cousin Timmy You can see another kit kat cake I made here. I used 30 kit kat bars to cover this 8 inch and 6 inch cake! My son wanted to change the theme at the last minute to the game “Captain Toad Treasure Tracker” but I had already made too many things to change the whole party. To make him happy, I put a Toad on top of his cake! I made the gum paste stars with my mom, and put them on wire.
The 1 up marshmallow mushrooms are marshmallow dipped in red chocolate. The polka dots are white fondant cut into circles. I used the top of a piping tip to cut out the circles. I used an edible marker to draw on the eyes. In Super Mario 3D World, if you get a red mushroom they make the player big.
For these star cookies, I made sugar cookies and used royal icing to frost the cookies and paint on the eyes. I baked the cookies with the cookie sticks inside. In Super Mario 3D World, the yellow stars make you invincible for a few seconds and you can kill your enemies.
I made these Mario mustaches with a chocolate mold and dark chocolate. Mario and Luigi both have mustaches in the game.
There is no ice power in 3D World, but in the game Super Mario Bros Wii, they have ice power.
If you get an ice flower or a penguin suit, you can get ice power that allows you to throw ice balls at your enemies. Marshmallows looked to me like ice balls. The flower on top of the container is an ice flower
All Super Mario games have fire power including Super Mario 3D World. Fire Power can be thrown at enemies to kill them. If you get the fire flower, it allows you to throw fire balls at your enemies until you lose your life. I used cheeseballs because they look the most like fire balls The flower on top of the container is a fire flower.
I had a craft table set up to do in the beginning of the party while the guests were arriving. They could make Luigi, Mario, or Princess Peach bags. I had all the face pieces cut out and put inside the bags. This turned out to be not such a good idea. The bags were cute, but the kids were too excited to be at the party to sit down and make a bag! Some of them did, but the majority didn’t. For the ones that did want to make one, they needed a lot of help. I would have the bags made ahead of time if I could change things I also had a star paper for each guest. There were 5 games, with 3 lives for each game (based on Super Mario 3D world). If they passed a level (game) I had my helpers put stars on their paper and a stamp on the back.
This is how I had the party set up.
When the guests left, they could take a question mark box filled with coins, Super Mario Fruit snacks (I looked everywhere for these and found them only online), and a mustache.
This is the prize table. If they got all their stars, they could get prizes at the end of the party The prizes were all super Mario related.
The first game was called Stomp the Goombas. Goombas are brown enemies in the game Super Mario 3D World. To kill a Goomba in the game, you can step on it, or jump on it. Some of the Goombas had 1ups inside after they popped them. This game was really fun! I made the balloons (Goombas) smaller so it would be a little harder.
The next game we played was Double Cherry pass. In the level in the game if you get the double cherry, there are two Marios who are next to each other and you have to complete the level with two Mario’s. We played this game as a three legged race!
This is a pop the bob-ombs game. The kids threw a dart at the black water balloons filled with air. In the game, Bob-ombs can blow you up if you don’t kill them.
Next we played Piranha Creeper Creek, hit the Piranha plant with the fire ball.
For the food we had pizza, fettuccini Alfredo with Chicken, Antipasto salad, green salad, sandwiches, and Princess Peach punch.
After food, games, and Cake and ice cream, we hit the piñata. I called this level “Defeat Bowser”. This is the Bowser piñata I made. You can see how I made this piñata here. In the game, Bowser is Mario’s Arch Nemesis. You can’t pass the game until you kill Bowser
I think my son really liked his party! I love to see his smile and to make him happy! Happy Birthday Sweet Dylan!

This Super Mario Bros Bowser piñata was definitely a labor of love!
Making this piñata took about 3 weeks. I started with balloons for the body head and face, then added thin cardboard for the legs and arms. I taped the cardboard on the balloons with masking tape. I also formed the horns, eyebrows, hands and feet that way. I used 6 rolls of masking tape and 3 rolls of duct tape!!
After the body was the shape I wanted, I covered it with paper mache using newspapers and a mixture of half flour half water.
It took me several days to finish the paper mache because of the drying time. I dried it outside with a fan directly on it as much as I could!
After the paper mache was dry I put in two hanging hooks. I put in two because this piñata is so heavy! I got the idea from Pinata Boy
I took a hanger and stuck it through a cake board. I bent the sides up and around. I did this for both hooks.
I cut a hole in the underside of Bowser. I had to reach in all the way up to my armpit and poke the hanger through the hole in the top where I wanted my hanger to go. Then I used pliers to make a loop on the top with the hanger. I looked pretty funny with my arm all the way up in Bowsers butt! lol
Then I covered the hole and taped over it.
After that came the fun part of spraying primer, painting with spray paint and covering with crepe paper! I used 6 bottles of glue and 4 rolls of crepe paper. I used red feathers for his hair and eyebrows.
Finally its done! I left a hole in the mouth on the side to stuff the candy in!
Enjoy!

My sister Chelsea had a baby shower last weekend and asked me to do the cake! Since the gender of her baby is a surprise, she wanted grey, white and yellow as her colors. This cake is a two tier chocolate and vanilla cake with raspberry mousse filling and buttercream ruffle frosting.

To make this tent, I used a hula hoop and tied 6 ribbons around the edge. I gathered them all in the middle and tied a knot. Then I hung it from the ceiling on a hook. After that, I found different pieces of material, table cloths, and fabric to piece together this fortune teller tent. I put a small table and two chairs inside. The tent closes completely, so there is privacy when Madame Zola is telling fortunes. I made a crystal ball out of a candle holder and a round globe light fixture! I put a flickering electric candle inside the ball. It looked really good! I also made some gypsy prayer flags to hang above the tent to give it more of a gypsy/bohemian feel.
The kids lined up and had there fortunes told one at a time. They did not get any bad fortunes, only good positive ones.

For his dessert table, I made chocolate Mario mustaches on a stick, red and green mushroom cupcakes, star chocolate lollipops, jelly bellies as Yoshi eggs, and also some marshmallows and gumballs as fire power and ice power.
For the decorations on the dessert table, I made a happy birthday Dylan sign with the classic Mario blocks. I made piranha plants out of foam balls, bob-bombs out of foam balls, question mark boxes that I painted, and fire flowers.
Now for the cake! I cut out all the Mario characters from gum paste, I used a cake stand with pillars and covered them in fondant to look like the Mario pipes.
The kids sat at tables covered with Mario colors.
At the party we served Mario pizza pie, Luigi pasta salad, turkey subs, princess peach punch, and snow cones.
The star piñata was a huge hit.
We played pop the bob-bomb by throwing darts at black balloons that looked like bob-bombs. All I did to create this game was buy a peg board from Home Depot that holes in it already! The balloons stuck in the holes because the knot is on the other side of the board. The kids loved this game!
Princess Peach made an appearance and the kids loved her! Especially Dylans friend Matthew! He didn’t leave her side the whole party!

Here is the first table I designed. For this table, I made a easy non sew pennant banner with three different patterns of material. I made gift bags with the left over material. You can see other pennant banners I have made here
Another decoration that I thought made a nice look was the pinwheels. It is a lot simpler then the pinwheels I used here for this party!
This is the second dessert table for this party, which one do you think is better?
These cake pops were really fun and easy to make! I made a chocolate cake pop and let it completely dry. Then I took a new paint brush and painted water all over the cake pop. Next, I opened a bottle of green disco dust and painted it all over the cake pop. When they dry they look just like this, very sparkly and pretty! You can see some other cake pops I made with disco dust here, and some other Saint Patrick’s day cake balls here.
I bought little green cups that I got from Oriental Trading Co. and filled them with delicious green grapes.
I made platters of green vegetables with broccoli, cucumbers, and celery.
I made sugar free jello and cut them into shamrocks (another healthier choice).
Ingredients
Instructions
I made kiwi strawberry juice, instead of the usual sugar packed punch or soda. I got to use my new beverage dispenser, and it worked great!
Now on to the non healthy items The cake is three tiered and I made the fondant myself. You can find the recipe Here. For this cake I made two batches of marshmallow fondant. I rolled out the green fondant thin and cut out the shamrocks with cookie cutters, using two different sizes.
I made these cookies with a mold I got on Amazon.com. I painted green chocolate on the shamrock, then placed an Oreo cookie inside. After that, I covered the cookie with more green chocolate. I used wilton candy melts.
The cake pops are vanilla cake with green chocolate, and white sprinkles. I think cake pops always make a party more festive!
I filled a green leprechaun pot with gold rolos, they are so cute and look just like gold. These two leprechauns add the perfect finishing touch to the table.
I hope you like my party and that you can use some of my ideas and recipes for your next St. Patricks Day party!
Enjoy,
Shamene

I created this Wizard of Oz Welcome Home Party for my mom who finally moved back to California after 4 years in Florida. I based the party around the famous line “There is no place like home” from the movie The Wizard of Oz. This was always one of our favorite movies growing up.
For this Wizard of Oz Welcome Home Party I took my favorite parts of the movie and based my treats on them! The cake, jello, and backdrop are based on the song “Somewhere over the rainbow”
This rainbow jello is a favorite treat that my Grandma Rose used to make for us at family gatherings. It is very easy to make, but VERY time consuming! I have a greater appreciation for all the rainbow jello she used to make! You can find the recipe here
For this Wizard of Oz Welcome Home Party, I made the cake as a rainbow centerpoint of the table. It is a two tier chocolate cake. The top layer is cookies and cream filling with white chocolate ganache. The bottom layer has raspberry mousse filling with white chocolate ganache frosting. I piped all the rainbow color dots by hand using a small round tip and 5 different colors of butterecream.
The cake pops are based on the part of the movie where Dorothy clicks her heels three times and says “There is no place like home”. I made vanilla cake pops and dipped them in white chocolate. After they dried, I painted a layer of water using a new paintbrush, then quickly painted red edible disco dust all over the pop. It was so fun and easy enough that my four year old son helped me make two of them. Can you tell which ones he did? He is very good! These cake pops were the favorite item next to the jello, and the guests kept asking if they were edible because they are so pretty and sparkly. Yes disco dust is edible! My husband thinks they look kind of like Christmas ornaments. I agree The yellow brick road cupcakes were chocolate with yellow buttercream piped on using a large star tip. I made the cupcake wrappers by hand.
I hope you enjoy this party!

The Decorations included a cute sign that says “keep calm and eat watermelon” Perfect for the event. The balloons were pink and green filled with helium. I drew black “seeds” on the pink balloons with a black sharpie. I cut out pink and green paper and glued them onto water bottles to fit the color scheme. I made a Watermelon Piñata based on the piñata from Ohhappyday.com using card board and crepe paper! I filled it with delicious candy.
The Centerpiece is a watermelon carving I tried for the first time! It was really fun to make!
Some of the food included watermelon jello on the rind, watermelon on a stick, watermelon flavored cupcakes, and watermelon candy!
I made these watermelon flavored cupcakes with watermelon cupcakes filled with chocolate chip “seeds” and topped with yummy watermelon buttercream frosting that I piped on with a large circle tip. The recipe is below. I was going to put chocolate chip seeds on top, but they ended up not looking right.
For the candy, I found the watermelon suckers and gumballs at Oriental trading company, and the watermelon gummy candy at my local dollar store! What a great find that was!
I hope you like this party and that you can find some great ideas for your next summer watermelon party!
